Google Calendar
I love reading back dated articles that try to predict the future. Here is one that starts with " It's been an open secret among entrepreneurs in Silicon Valley that Google (Quote, Chart) would launch Google calendar in October." Hmm... it's now November and http://calendar.google.com still redirects to the main Google page. Ha ha. What an open secret.
Then again. How would calendar.google.com look like? Gmail is so refreshingly different from all the web based email clients before. So different that I initially found it foreign and didn't really like it. But that's all changed after some re-education. You don't need folders! Labels are better because the same email can be sorted into various labels. That was the first step of the education. Next step was that you don't need to sort everything. Just search for it! Gmail's search is so fast! Now I only use labels with filters to move stuff I know I don't want to read immediately. The filter just labels it, and archives it. Archive? That's another concept to learn. I found it to be such a good concept that I've created "Archive" folders for my other web mail accounts. This is especially useful for ANU's crappy web based email client that gets so slow when the Inbox is full.
So what would the calendar be like? Don't date your events! Just dump it in and let Google Calendar decide. Wow cool.. I could celebrate my birthday on different dates each year! Hmm... you could say that's what we all do each year, since the year is a component of date. Ok. Bad example. Oh oh... could it have a rolling view of the months instead of one screen per month? That is, if a month ends on a Wed, then the next box, Thur, should continue with the next month.
22 23 24 25 26 27 28 Aug
29 30 31 01 02 03 04 Sep
05 06 07 08 09 10 11
This would make it easier to plan the week that starts from 29 Aug. And during the month of August, you won't miss the deadline on the 1st September because it would be on the same page!
